- What if you are home schooled?(11 votes)
- Also look into your local homeschool community! Often they have groups for homeschoolers. It's different everywhere, but my community has a homeschool basketball team, volleyball team, school-year band, summer marching band, choir, theater, robotics, and many other co-ops.(9 votes)
- My home school doesn't offer any extracurricular activities so how can I get extra credit if I don't have t?(5 votes)
- So, I was in a form of home school too. A lot of the extracurricular activities we had didn't appeal to me, so I started doing stuff on my own. I learned some coding from CodeAcademy (I didn't know about KA's coding section yet), I did some artwork, and I practiced my writing. More than anything, though, I focused on my academics. Extracurriculars are great and can definitely help, but they can only push you so far if your grades aren't good. In other words, create your own extracurriculars. Volunteer for the community, learn something you want to learn on your own, and pay attention to those grades. That's the type of stuff colleges look for. And apply early.(2 votes)
- how do you become a leader(5 votes)
- The first step to becoming a leader is to get out of your comfort-zone and have self-confidence in whatever you do. Then comes the other stuff.(2 votes)
- well,if i mastered advanced abacus as i have a passion in mathematics, would it be considered as an extracurricular activities and is it beneficial for college admissions. I also read books in theoretical physics as i want to pursue theoretical physics and mathematics. So i know most of the theories from big bang, black hole theory, particle physics to relativity, quantum mechanics and string theory so is it a extracurricular activity? And besides this, which other extracurricular activities i should do if i have a great passion for mathematics as well as in physics and i want to pursue this subjects in my higher studies. well i am in 11 and i live in India.(2 votes)
- It's great that you are interested in science and math! However I wouldn't describe your knowledge as an extracurricular activity. As Liz, said you may want join clubs on the topic, if you haven't already. Your age, grade, and where you come from does not matter at the moment. So I'm not sure why you would say " well i am 11 and i live in India." Also, there is still a lot more for you to learn. Meaning don't think that you know everything, because that could seriously destroy your life. Colleges also want to see more than just math and science. So maybe take up an instrument if you haven't already. Add in hobbies, like sports and art. It all helps when it comes to application. Best of luck with pursuing you dreams and goals!(2 votes)
- I use sites like odesk to get workers to work on various projects. My company has no physical employees(No face to face), but I still have to collaborate with them through email/IM/phone. So, is outsourcing considered leadership?(2 votes)
- I would imagine so (im only in 10th so im not 100% sure) being a leader comes in many shapes and forms and not matter what kind of leader you are (rank wise) you are still a leader so i would def ask the collage or ask your school or do some reasearch on it as well(2 votes)
- I want to be a football player when I get older. I am in 9th grade. What are some extracurriculars I could do to achieve that dream.(2 votes)
- Well, I am just a 7th grader, but definitely play Football for your school. Maybe take weightlifting or P.E. classes. And there are centers that can help you get better. Also maybe try and referee for youth games at your local YMCA to understand the game better. But remember practice is key to becoming a professional athlete. Good Luck!(2 votes)
- I'm homeschooled and I'm on the swim team, its a club team, but our public high school has a swim team as well should I try to get on the team and would that help with my college application being on a high school team and competing with them?(2 votes)
- how do you balance your extracurricular activities with school(2 votes)
Video transcript
- One of the biggest
extracurriculars for me was football. Football definitely challenged
me in different ways but definitely helped me
make a lot of relationships that I'll cherish for the rest of my life. Football challenged me in a couple ways, simply because I was a backup
quarterback for three years, and for a while, it's daunting
to not be on a playing field and seeing your teammates
out there fighting for you and you're just being
there on the sidelines. What I learned from that was when there's a door that's closed, you just gotta open another one, and through that, I learned that leadership doesn't have to be a name. You don't have to be Mr. This This. It comes from within. Leadership comes from passion, and through that, I was able to lead my team into the sideline. I was a leader in practice,
on the scout team, and by the end of my senior year, I won a Journey Man Of the Year Award, which is given to the player on the team who best illuminated
the leadership qualities of a leader, regardless of playing time, and through that, I was able
to write another college essay of mine that definitely helped
me get into a couple colleges because it really showed a
different aspect of leadership that not a lot of people thought about. Through that, I got a college essay, and it was a good life lesson. It's good to know that you
don't have to be the boss.
